Frank E. Niziol, 55, of E-3494 Lake Rd., Ironwood Township, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, Aug. 21, 2008, in his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1952, in Ironwood, son of the late Frank and Helen (Jendrzejewski) Niziol, attended Central Grade School, and graduated from L.L. Wright High School in 1970. He was then employed at Ahonen Lumber Co. in Ironwood for a short time, and for the City of Ironwood for ten years, nine of those years as a fireman in the City Fire Department, retiring due to ill health. Frank was a quiet, reserved man who enjoyed his privacy. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan, and especially enjoyed bird-watching. Surviving are his brother, Michael (Sally), of Ironwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog "Mick". Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Paul Niziol, in 1949. In accordance with Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering in celebration of Frank's life will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with cake and coffee to be served in the funeral home lounge during the gathering. Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
