Obituary

Frances C. Templer, 96, of Ironwood, Michigan, died on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley, Wisconsin. She was born on January 24, 1924, in Ironwood, the daughter of the late Stephen and Josephine (Gorilla) Cvengros. She graduated from L.L. Wright High School in 1942. Frances held several jobs after graduation from high school, most notably as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell. On June 17, 1950, Fran was united in marriage to her husband, Joseph J. Templer, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church by the late Rev. Ambrose Matejik. Joe and Fran were married for 65 years until Joe's passing on October 26, 2015. After marrying, Fran was a stay-at-home mother to their three sons. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She especially enjoyed weekly drives with her husband, Joe, to Duluth, Wausau and Marquette during their retirement years. Recently, her favorite times included visits from her sons at the Villa Maria, exercise classes, social interactions there, and spending a summer afternoon at the family cottage on Pine Lake with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fran is survived by her sons, Chuck (Chris) of Green Bay, Rick (Connie) and Joe, both of Ironwood, Michigan; four grandchildren, Amanda Templer, Ashland, Andy Templer of Ironwood, Michigan, Alissa Jandrain (Josh) of Stevens Point, and Adam Templer (Erin) of Madison; great-grandchildren, Addison and Connor Jandrain of Stevens Point and Elodie, Annika and Calista Templer of Madison; brother, Ben Cvengros (Doris Skavarda) of Bessemer, Michigan; sister, Dorothy DeSantis of Placerville, California, and sister-in-law, Grace Cvengros of Ironwood, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Josephine Cvengros; husband, Joe; and numerous siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood at a later date. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, Michigan. The family would like to express their deep appreciation and sincere thanks to the staff at the Villa Maria Nursing Home in Hurley. The staff there always treated our mother with respect, kindness, and a level of care that we will be forever thankful for. The family has chosen McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Ironwood, to honor Frances' legacy of life. You can leave a condolence or a tribute at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.
