Flora Wheeler, 92, of Montreal,
Wis., died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at St. Mary's Solvay Hospice House in
Duluth. Flora was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Hurley,
Wis., to Joseph and Domenica (Casarotto) Schiavo, and lived in the Hurley area
all of her life. She married Harry I. Wheeler on Nov. 23, 1940.
He preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1967. She was an active member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Montreal for many years and later attended St. Mary's Church
in Hurley. Flora was employed for many years at Connie's
Supper Club in Hurley. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, knitting, craftwork and
cooking for her family. She is survived by a daughter, Bertha Pearson,
Duluth; a granddaughter, Sarah (Kurt) Goulet, St. Paul; a grandson, Tom
(Theresa) Pearson, Duluth; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Emma Goulet and
Emily and Eric Pearson; one brother, Carmel Schiavo, of Hurley; and numerous
nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death
by her parents, a son-in-law, Richard B. Pearson; a sister, Cisera Canalia; and
three brothers, Alfred, Geno, and Mero Schiavo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the
Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the
church, with luncheon to follow at the Iron Nugget in downtown
Hurley. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery,
Hurley. Friends may call at the church one hour prior
