Obituary

Eugene F. "Hunz" Stevens, 84, of E-5275 Sunset Rd., Ironwood Township, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Wakefield.      He was born April 9, 1925, in Ironwood, son of the late Fredrick and Amelia (Richards) Stevens, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943. He then entered the U.S. Navy on Aug. 18, 1943 and served during World War II in the Phillippines as a motor machinist's mate second class, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal ( 2 stars), the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon (1 star), and the Victory Medal.      Following his honorable discharge on April 5, 1946, he returned to Ironwood where he worked at the Becker Trailer Factory for seven years,  and was employed as a heavy equipment operator at White Pine Copper Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1986.      Eugene was a former member of the United Steelworkers Union. He enjoyed gardening, woodcarving, carpentry, hunting and fishing, and spending time at the cottage on Beatons Lake. He  especially enjoyed following his grandchildren in all of their sporting activities.      On Oct. 27, 1956, he was married to the former Dolores A. Bulinski at Christ the King Catholic Church in Ramsay, by the late Msgr. Louis Cappo. Dolores survives.      Also surviving are two sons, Dan (fiancee Cheryl), Albuquerque, N.M., and Ted (Karen), Ironwood; four grandchildren, Tyler and Danielle Stevens, Albuquerque, Matt Stevens, Phoenix, Ariz., and Cole Stevens, Ironwood; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Stevens, Zion, Ill., Marlene Kerkes, Minocqua, Wis., and June Bulinski, Bessemer; and brothers-in-law, David (Kathy) Bulinski, Ironwood, and Dennis (Carole) Bulinski, Chandler, Ariz.          Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James, and sister, Betty Thomas.      Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Roy Speck officiating.      Committal will take place at the funeral home, where a flag presentation ceremony will be accorded by representatives of the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.      Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.      To view Eugene's obituary online, sign the guestbook and express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com .      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home Inc., Ironwood.
