Eugene H. "Haiki" Fudaley, 82,
of Ironwood, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, surrounded by his loving
family, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, after suffering a
stroke. He was born Dec. 18, 1929, in the Town of Oma,
son of the late Stanley and Hilda (Maki) Fudaley, attended the Oma State Graded
School, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1947. He then
was employed in logging for Victor Saarnio. Eugene entered the U.S. Army in 1951, serving
in Germany during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1953.
Following his discharge, he returned to Oma and worked in the woods for Arnold
Saarnio. He then worked in the Cary Mine and Penokee Mine, retiring as a scoop
operator at White Pine Copper Co. after 29 years of service in
1992. Eugene was a member of Our Lady of Peace
Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former St. Michael's Catholic Church, and
Ironwood American Legion Post 5. He enjoyed deer hunting, snowplowing and
cutting grass, and especially loved his grandchildren and all animals. He had a
wonderful sense of humor. On May 7, 1955, he was married to Margaret H.
Cebolski at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer, Mich. by the Rev. Milton
Vanitvelt. Margaret survives. Also surviving are a son, Geno, and three
daughters, Marilee Fudaley, Jackie (Jim) Thiede, and Kathy Jo (Jim) Koval, all
of Ironwood Township; three grandchildren, Christopher DeRosso, and Mikayla and
McKensi Koval; three brothers, Leonard (Audrey), Hurley, John (Marilyn), Beloit,
and Dean (Sue), Oma; a sister, Betty Ann (Dave) Kososki, Florida; numerous
nieces and nephews; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Jim (Karin) Cebolski,
Bessemer, Muriel David, Wheeling, Ill., Charleen (Bill) Bennett, Buffalo Grove,
Ill., and Bonnie Cebolski, Bessemer. Out of respect for Eugene's wishes, cremation
has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday,
Feb. 24, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10
a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin,
celebrant. A flag presentation ceremony will be accorded
by representatives of the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor
Guard. Luncheon will follow at Manny's in
