Obituary

Esther W. Rintala, 92, of 127 No. Curry St., Ironwood, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in Ironwood, surounded by her family. The former Esther Laakso was born April 15, 1916, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Matt and Katherine (Hakala) Laakso, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1934. She then was employed at Stenholm's Bakery in Ironwood for several years. Esther married Oliver N. Rintala in Ironwood. She was a stay-at-home mom for several years, then worked as a clerk at Carlson's Supermarket Bakery and the Pastry Kitchen for 30 years, retiring in 1995. Oliver preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1980. Esther was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood and the Paula Circle. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she loved her family and will be deeply missed. Surviving are her daugther, Mary (Roger) Born, Black Lick, Ohio, and grandson, Bryan Born, Vail, Colo.; a sister, Saima Browne, Lakewood, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arne and Oiva Laakso; and four sisters, Helen Rhenlund, Elvira Pezich, Lillian Ross and Laina Laakso. Funeral swervices will be held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 111 So. Curry St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Christian Muellerleile officiating. Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Roger and Bryan Born, Milan Pezich and Ron Pelkola.
