Obituary

Erma V. Maurin, 89, of Ironwood, died Monday, April 2, 2012, in Ironwood.      The former Erma Bonato was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Ironwood, daughter of the late John and Catherine (SantaCatterina) Bonato, attended St. Ambrose Grade School, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1941. She was employed in the National Youth Association office in Ironwood for a short time, as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. for six years, and as an inspector at Simpson Electric Co. in Mercer, Wis. from 1965 to 1986. She also worked part-time at the Daily Globe in Ironwood.      Erma was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and its Women's Council, Area Senior Citizens and AARP. She enjoyed reading, cooking and baking, crocheting, word search puzzles, and playing Canasta with her card group.        On June 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Michael F. Maurin at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Msgr J. B. Moriarity. Mike preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2011.      Surviving are two daughters, Virginia (Ronald) DeMario, Wausau, Wis., and Mary Kay "Cookie" (Mike) Czerneski, Ironwood; three grandchildren, Tina (Greg) Spradlin, Port Orange, Fla., Daniel Patrick DeMario, Wausau, and Nicole DeMario, St. Paul, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Katrina, Samantha and Joseph Spradlin; a sister, Mary Juno, Ironwood; sisters-in-law, Irene Bonato, Ironwood, and Agnes King, Tallahassee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and husband, Erma was predeceased by a brother, Tony Bonato; and two sisters, Elvera Kostac and Lena Semenak.      A Mass of Christian will be celebrated Friday, April 13, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J.Pepin, celebrant.      Luncheon will immediately follow in the parish hall.      Rite of Committal and interment will then take place in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.         Pallbearers will be John Kostac, George Semenak, Joe Juno, Jim Vanderspoel, Dave Rowe and Michael Keogh.      Erma's obituary can be viewed online and condolences given to her family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc., Ironwood.
