Obituary

Enrica M. "Rica" DeFerro, 93, of Hurley, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, in Hurley.      The former Enrica Federizzi was born June 20, 1918, in Hurley, daughter of the late Enrico and Adele (Larcher) Federizzi, and attended Hurley schools. She was employed for a short time at the Hurley Plastic Factory, but loved volunteer work, serving as a  volunteer at Hurley Head Start for 26 years and also at the Iron County Historical Society Museum.       Enrica was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and its Council of Catholic Women, and the Iron County Historical Society. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation for service to the community by the Iron County Citizens Association in 2003, and was named Citizen of the Year by the Hurley Chamber of Commerce in 2006. She was well known for her gardening, canning and baking, and was a caregiver to many people.      She was married to John L. DeFerro on May 22, 1937, at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, by the late Rev. Peter F. Meyer. John preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1981.      She then married Joseph J. Younger on Oct. 6, 1986, at St. Mary's Church in Hurley. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1996.      Surviving are a son, John (Gail), Hurley; two daughters, Kathleen Rooni, North Bessemer, Mich., and Mary (Dennis) Blomberg, Hurley; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; step-sons, Dennis Younger, Minneapolis, Minn., and Brian (Mary) Younger, Neenah; two sisters, Frances Capello, Menomonee Falls, and Barbara Benzala, Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gerald Rooni; two sisters, Ida Ekmark and Theresa Gutcher; and two nephews, Donald and Richard Ekmark.      Out of respect for Enrica's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.      Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.      Lunch will be served in the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Iron County Historical Society Museum, 303 Iron St. Hurley, Wis. 54534      Enrica's obituary can be viewed online and condolences given to her family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood
