Emily J. Kopecko, 97, of Ironwood, died early Friday morning, Jan. 16, 2009, in Hurley. The former Emily Lindberg was born April 5, 1911, in Ironwood, to the late William and Hildegard (Olson) Lindberg. She attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1929. She was employed as a sales clerk at the S.S. Kresge Co. in downtown Ironwood for many years. Emily was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and the outdoors. She was married to Lloyd Kopecko in 1932 in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 2004. Surviving are three sons, William (Beverly), Eagle River, Wis. and Punta Gorda, Fla.; Peter (Jeri), Stevens Point, Wis.; and Charles (Julie), Bessemer; six grandchildren, Karyn Kopecko, Lakeville, MN.; Peter James Kopecko and Lee Ann Kopecko, both of Stevens Point; Dr. Lindi (Andy Clausen) Kopecko D.V.M., Rigby, Idaho; Charissa (Mike) Kopecko, Johnstown, Colo.; and Jessica Kopecko, Ironwood; numerous nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Ted (Dorothy) Kaye, Northbrook, Ill.; and a cousin, Rudy (Betty) Hoagberg, Minneapolis, Minn. Besides her parents and husband, Emily was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Lindberg; and step-brother, Clarence Lindberg. In accordance with Emily's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Christian Muellerleile officiating. Committal services will take place at the funeral home, with luncheon to follow at Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood. Spring inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
