Obituary

Ellen A. Binz, 82, of 4380 W. County Rd. C, Oma, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in Ironwood. The former Ellen Kerber was born Nov. 8, 1925, in Bloomington, ILL, daughter of the late Edward and Roseanna (Dalton) Kerber, and graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in Bloomington in 1943. She was employed at the Elgin Watch Co. for two years, then at Baucher Craft Weaving Co. for a short time. She was married to Wayne L. Binz on May 11, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elgin, ILL by Bishop Leo Binz. The couple then resided in Harvard, ILL prior to moving to Hurley in August, 1980. Ellen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, its' Council of Catholic Women, and the Oma-South Carey Homemakers. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and cooking, and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Wayne, of Oma; two sons, Steve (Lynn), Hurley, and David, Harvard, ILL; four daughters, Judy Landis, Lighthouse Point, FL, Mary Ellen (Roland) Haas, Prior Lake, Minn., Kathryn (Keith) Kleinhans, Campbellsport, and Janet (Patrick) Yates, Sharon; 20 grandchildren, Brian (Roberta) Binz, Jeremy Binz, Alison (Vincent) Armelli, Ty Landis, Brook (Jessica) Haas, Damian (Crissy) Haas, Hanne Haas, Stephanie Binz, Steven (Kim) Binz, Wayne and Chelsea Binz, David (Kristen) Binz, Nathan (Maggie) Binz, Trista, Caleb, Dustin and Michaela Binz, John Kleinhans, and Emily and Patrick Yates; nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Shelly and Kaitlyn Binz, Madison Landis, Taylor Binz, Laney and Nadia Osterholm, and Elijah and Alyssa Binz; a brother, Eugene (Kathy) Kerber, Cooksville, ILL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by three sons, Daniel and John, Jan. 19, 1985, and Patrick, Feb. 9, 1992; a grandson, John Wayne Binz II, Jan. 19, 1985; and two sisters, Mary Agnes Kerber and Veronica Kagel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening, at the Engstrom Funeral Home, 210 Maple St., in Hurley, where the parish rosary will be recited at 7:30, and continue from 10 a.m. until Mass time at the church on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Ellen's 13 grandsons, to include Brian and Jeremy Binz, Ty Landis, Brook and Damian Haas, Steven, Wayne, David, Nathan, Caleb and Dustin Binz, John Kleinhans and Patrick Yates.
