Obituary

Elizabeth J. Pozzani, 84, of 110 2nd St. North, Hurley, died Friday, May 30, 2008, in Hurley. The former Elizabeth Cornolo was born May 30, 1924, in Hurley, daughter of the late Peter and Maria (DeRosso) Cornolo, attended St. Mary's Grade School, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1942. She then attended Eau Claire Teacher's College in Eau Claire and received her teaching certificate in 1945. She taught in the Hurley School District for seven years, at St. Mary's Grade School for six years, and worked for the Headstart Program in Hurley for five years, retiring in 1980. Elizabeth was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. Following her retirement, she devoted her time to her grandchildren. She was married to Andy Pozzani on Oct. 20, 1951, at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, by the late Msgr. Michael Prock. Andy preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1980. Surviving are five sons, Peter (Bobbi), Iron Belt, Daniel (Michelle), Montreal, James, Garnerville, N.Y., Jack (Carol), Beloit, and Jerry, Coupeville, Wash.; three daughters, Maureen (Jon) Morzenti, Montreal, and Andrea Soltis and Marcia Raymond (Philip Schleinhege), both of Hurley; 19 grandchildren, Mark and Danielle Pozzani, Vince Tampio, Cora, Hanna, Olivia and Toni Morzenti, Cary (Jeff) Kadrlik, Angela, Jake and Chad Soltis, Joey and Chrissie Anderson, Garyn (Mike) Partanen, Dominic Pozzani, Jeremy (Jen) Raymond, and Natalie, Victoria and Nathaniel Raymond; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Gadberry, Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Raymond, in 1988; two brothers, Anthony and John Cornolo; and three sisters, Elizabeth Cornolo in infancy, Erma Patritto and Caroline Spooner. In accordance with Elizabeth's wishes, cremation has taken place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, June 13, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
