Obituary

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Morgando, 87, of 13 Park St., Gile, died Sunday morning, March 29, 2009, in Hurley. The former Elizabeth Beres was born June 10, 1921, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Kohut) Beres, attended Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1939. She was married to Louis R. Morgando on Aug. 28, 1943, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Rev. Andrew Schulek. Louis preceded her in death on March 25, 2003. Betty was employed in clerical work in the office at the Montreal Mine until the mine closed, and was Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Montreal for many years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and traveling, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are a son, Rick (Dawn), and two grandsons, Zack and Garrett, all of St. Charles, Ill.; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, William and Pat Morgando, Pence, Dennis and Irene DeRosso, Oma, Loretta and Lawrence Laguna, Pence, Louise Morgando, Gile, and Florence Gulan, Montreal; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Rudy and John Beres; and sisters, Ann Burgeson and Margaret Beres. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Relatives and friends may call at the church one hour prior to Mass on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Church , 404 Iron St., Hurley, Wis. 54534.
