Obituary

Elizabeth B. "Liz" DalPra, 81, of 707 Normandy Ave., Ironwood, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in Ironwood. The former Elizabeth Benetti was born April 5, 1926, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Antonio and Antonia (Dal Degan) Benetti, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1943. She attended Gogebic Community College for one year, and graduated from Loyola University-St. Elizabeth School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1948. Liz worked at Newport Hospital in Ironwood for two years, and at Grand View Hospital in obstetrics for many years, retiring as nursing administrator in 1988. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, where she served on the funeral lunch committee, and was active as a Eucharistic Minister, in the Resurrection Choir, the Intercessory Prayer Group and the Rosary Group, and in Ministry of Care. She also was a member of the Michigan Nurse's Association and the Range Paisanos, volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Grand View Hospital, and took monthly blood pressure readings at the Senior Center. She enjoyed card playing. On Aug. 19, 1950, she was married to Fortunato DalPra at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Msgr. J.B. Moriarty. Fortunato preceded her in death on April 26, 1991. Surviving are a son, Dr. Mark (Marta), Ann Arbor, and daughter, Camille (John) Lupino, Ironwood; three grandchildren, Anthony Lupino, Bessemer, Marissa Lupino, Bel Air, MD, and Christopher DalPra, Ann Arbor; two brothers, Renaldo "Cy" (Jan) Benetti, Oceanside, Calif., and Dr. Arthur (Veronica) Benetti, Belmond, Iowa; three sisters, Mary Turunen, Ironwood, Eleanor (Frank) Glugla, Waukesha, Wis., and Katherine Karjala-Johnson, Ironwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Mystica Gallina and Katherine Salvato, both of Rockford, Ill. Besides her parents and husband, Liz was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Steven DalPra, daughter-in-law, Colleen Morgan-Dalpra, and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachele and Giovanna DalPra, all on Dec. 28, 2004; and three sisters, Inez Chiantello, May 6, 2003, Amelia "Millie" Valesano, Feb. 6, 2006, and Pauline Benetti in childhood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Raymond Moncher, celebrant. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be John and Anthony Lupino, Dr. Mark DalPra and Christopher DalPra, David Chiantello and Arthur Karjala. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Regional Hospice Services, in care of Grand View Hospital, N-10561 Grandview Lane, Ironwood, MI 49938.
