Obituary

Elin Lois Johnson Elin Johnson, age 55, of 817 N. Lawrence St., Ironwood, died peacefully at her home in the loving care of her husband Jack on Friday, April 3, 2009. Elin was born Nov. 25, 1953 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Dr. Grant Johnson and Peggy Cook Johnson. She lived her young life in Springfield, Ill., graduated from Lake Forest Academy and went on to Drake University. She established and operated two businesses in Whitewater, Wis., a natural food store and an educational toy store, before moving to Ironwood. For 25 years Elin helped manage and operate Freds at the Fair, a cooperative restaurant at the Illinois State Fair. She was an avid sailor and worked as a chef and first mate on a charter yacht in the Carribean, but she loved the Northwoods. Her final job was at Dairyman's Resort in Boulder Junction, Wis. She loved the beauty and wildlife and the opportunity to share that with others. Elin was strong, loving, adventurous, co-operative, hardworking and a force for good. She tried to improve the world she lived in by helping everyone have a bit more fun. Elin met her husband Jack Selin in 1988, and they were married on May 9, 1992. He survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Grant (Sue) Johnson, Mt. Horeb, Wis. and Mark (Carrie) Johnson, Milwaukee, Wis.; an aunt, Evelyne Cook, Deerfield, Ill.; loving brother-and-sister-in-law Jim and Sue Westeen, Ramsay; and nieces and nephews and a great-niece and two great-nephews who brought smiles to her face and warmth to her soul, to include Kristen, Erica, C.J., Jade, Evelyne and Callin Johnson, Kelly and Jesse Westeen, Mark and Lisa Selin, and Heather, Steven and Scot Selin. At Elin's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial gatering in celebration of her life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at Nora's Bar in downtown Hurley. Elin's life was adventurous and now she is off on one more adventure. I see her standing on the deck with the sails flapping as she gets smaller and smaller and I say she is gone... But I know as she grows smaller to me there is a group on the far shore, looking out to sea. As she grows smaller to me, she grows larger to them. As I say she is gone, they shout in joyful voices, "hurray, here she comes-- and the journey continues. Sail on my Beloved and thanks for the adventure
