Obituary

Eli Matthew Niemi, infant son of Lonnie Niemi and Dawn Vernetti of Ironwood, Mich., went to be with the Angels on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.         Our sweet little angel, though only in our life for five days, we have learned so much from you. You have taught us to live each moment as though it were the last, to love unconditionally and to live each day as the blessing that it is. You have brought such joy to our lives, love to our hearts and memories that will last us until we see you again.      You no longer need to fight, no longer need the machines to breath, no longer need to be strong for us.  Though the grief and hurt are overwhelming to us, we know that you are finally at peace, breathing freely without pain or struggle, your body healed, listening to the lovely songs being sung to you in Heaven.  We look forward to the day that we can all be together again, celebrating our reunion in Heaven.  We love you so very much our sweet little boy.      Eli is survived by his parents, Lonnie and Dawn, Ironwood; a brother Jory Vernetti, and four sisters, Brayden, Emaleah, Elsa and Eliana Niemi, all at home; paternal grandparents Lonnie (Karen) Niemi, Ironwood; maternal grandmother, Jean Roberts, Woodland Hills, Calif.; paternal great-grandparents Robert (Lois) Symons, Bessemer, Mich., and Bertha Niemi, Ironwood; maternal great-grandmother, Amelia Vernetti, Hurley; paternal uncle and aunt, Doug and Dana Niemi, both of Ironwood; maternal uncles and aunts, Peter Roberts, Arizona, Dan (Amanda), Gary, and Jeff Laabs, all of Ironwood, Crystal Roberts, California, and Jessie (Jesse) Piilola, Ironwood.        Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Donelle Laabs, and great-grandfathers, John Niemi and John Vernetti.     A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (5104 E. Margaret St., Ironwood) on Friday, June 25 at 2 P.M., with the Rev. Wesley "Bo" Baumeister officiating.     Visitation will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of service.     In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,  9000 Wisconsin Ave, Milwaukee, WI  53226.     To view Eli's obituary online, sign his guestbook and express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.     The McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood are assisting the family with arrangements.
