Eleanor A. Peltonen, 81, of Upson, Wis., died early Thursday morning, Aug. 16, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. The former Eleanor Lipske was born June 10, 1926, in the Town of Moore, Wis., daughter of the late George and Helen Lipske, and attended grade school in Upson. She was employed as a splicer at the Mellen Veneer Mill in Mellen and in housekeeping at the Holiday Inn in Hurley for several years. She then became a certified nurse's aid and was employed at the Josephson Nursing Home in Ironwood and at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, retiring in 1986. Eleanor was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the former St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Iron Belt and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pence. She was also a member of the Auxiliary to the Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580. She enjoyed knitting and going to the casino. Her favorite pasttime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eleanor was very much loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Surviving are her husband, Emil Walter Peltonen, of Upson; two sons, Robert (Vicki), Weyauwega, and Richard (Kathy), Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Yvonne "Sookie" (Gary) Morzenti, Montreal, and Deborah (Steve) Wilkie, Lynn Haven, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Shereen (Mark) Veley, Kristin Holzbauer, Darren Siirila, Shannon (Adam) Mattson, Keith Siirila, Megan (Troy) Trulove, Troy Kretzschmar, Travis (Brenda) Kretzschmar, Joshua Kretzschmar, Carlyn Wilkie, Kody Wilkie, Amanda McCarty, and Kevin Peltonen; three step-grandchildren, Sara (Adam) Fronczak, Jeremy Schroeder, and Melissa Schroeder; 15 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jacob, Jessica, Nellena, Dean, Dylan, Drew, Matthew, Aspen, Bryce, Nolan, Braeden, Ethan, Tyler, Cody, and one step-great-grandchild, Walker; two brothers, John (Donna) Lipske, Franklin, and Clarence (Lois) Lipske, Upson; a sister, Catherine Shaver, Washburn; a brother-and-sister-in-law, Marvin and Lu;cille Stern, Seattle, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, to include a special niece, Marie Guski, of Washburn. Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by seven brothers, Joseph, Casmer "Jackie", Martin, Leo, William, Edward, and Chester Lipske; and a sister, Lucille Rokser. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Sunday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Upson. A reception will be held at the Upson Town Hall immediately upon return from the cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Pallbearers will be Darren Siirila, Travis, Joshua, and Troy Kretzschmar, Kevin Peltonen, and Ryan Veley.
