Edward H. Hahn, 90, of Mercer, died peacefully Friday, June 21, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff, with his family by his side.      He was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Springbrook, Wis., son of the late Henry and Minnie (Thom) Hahn, attended grade school there, and graduated from Hayward High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on Dec. 11, 1942, serving in Europe in the 99th Bomb Squadron during World War II, and received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with One Silver Battle Star and Two Bronze Battle Stars, Two Overseas Service Bars and the Good Conduct Medal.      Following his honorable discharge as a sergeant on Oct. 25, 1945, Ed attended Superior State Teachers College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Minnesota-St. Paul, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry. He then was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as a forester in Rhinelander, Tomahawk and Mercer, retiring after 29 years of service in 1983.      Ed was an active member of St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, where he served on the building committee and as an usher and lector. He also was a life member of Father Higgins Council 7228, Mercer Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping with his family, taking walks and storytelling.      On Aug. 30, 1952, he was married to the former Virginia E. "Ginny" Armstrong at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hayward by the late Msgr. Kalandyck. She survives.      Also surviving are four sons, Michael (Deborah), Ironwood, Mich., Joseph (Cindy), Mercer, Jon (Bonnie), West Bend, and Christopher (Becca), Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Wendy (Joseph) Anderson, Lansing, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Hahn, Marshfield; son-in-law, Joseph Hammond (Kim Seale), Mercer; brother-in-law, John (Marge) Armstrong, Duluth, Minn.; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Duckett, Solon Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by two sons, Bruce in infancy and James in 2006; two daughters, Elizabeth Hahn in 1969 and Susan Hammond in 2008; twin brothers in infancy; and two sisters, Gertie Hahn and Alice Knoepker.      In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 26, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant.      Rite of Committal and interment will follow in the Mercer Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the combined Mercer VFW Post 9536 and Mercer-Manitowish Waters American Legion Post 424 Honor Guard.      Lunch will be served at Tahoe Lynx Golf Course on Pierpont Drive in Mercer immediately upon return from the cemetery.      Ed's obituary can be viewed online and condolences given to his family at mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
