Dorothy Zawislak, 70, a resident of the Keen Ager Adult Foster Care Home in Wakefield for many years, died Friday morning, Jan. 30, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minn. She was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Ironwood, daughter of the late George and Bertha (Gerouex) Zawislak, and briefly attended Roosevelt School in Ironwood Township. She was employed at the Bessemer Dairy Queen for the past 20 years. An avid sports fan, she attended all Wakefield Cardinals sporting events and was reknown as the unofficial ambassador and greeter of Wakefield. She was an active participant in the Special Olympics, having won numerous awards over the years, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Wakefield. Surviving are two brothers, Bob North, Hurley, Wis., and Larry Jokipii (Rita Klotter), Mercer, Wis.; and nephews and nieces, Douglas (Lorraine) North, Stoughton, Wis., Daniel North, Ashland, Wis., Cindy (Dick) Kessenich, Columbus, Wis., Sheri (Tom) Van Boxtel, Green Bay, Wis., Terry Kruger, Oshkosh, Wis., Sheri (Perry) Finco, Meridian, Idaho, Larry (Mary) Jokipii, Madison, Wis., Jason Jokipii, Boise, Idaho, Jackie Ransanici, Island Lake, Hurley, Carolyn (Lee) Sherwood and Debra Jenkins, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., and David (Dorothy) Jenkins, Ironwood. Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Jenkins. At the family's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1203 Peters St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Thomas Bauder officiating. Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Spring inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
