Dorothy J. McCullough, 92, a longtime Ironwood, Mich. resident, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in Hurley. The former Dorothy Stehlin was born March 4, 1917, in Bemidji, Minn., daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (King) Stehlin. She attended Duluth and Hibbing, Minn. schools, and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1935. Moving to Ironwood, she worked as a sales clerk at the S & L Store and the Diamond Shop for 15 years, retiring in 1983. Dorothy was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking and baking. She was married to Grant McCullough on Feb. 15, 1936, in Duluth. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1994. Surviving are three sons, Ed "Mickey" (Margo), Hastings, Minn., Dan (Patty), Ironwood, and Jeff (Linda), Brooklyn Park, Minn.; three daughters, Kay (Ray) Kuula and Mary (Percy) Smith, both of Ironwood, and Ann (Steve) Arthur, Lindstrom, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Michael (Joanne) Stehlin, Hibbing; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby Kuula, in 1978; her step-mother, Monica Stehlin; and three brothers, John, Edward and Robert Stehlin. In accordance with Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with a luncheon to immediately follow in the parish hall. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday.
