Dorothy
H. Heczko, 86, of Ironwood, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Westate Nursing,
Rehabilitation, and Assisted Living Community in Ironwood. The former Dorothy Garland
was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Bert and Mary
(Redcliff) Garland, and attended local schools and Luther L. Wright High
School. She married Paul J. Heczko
on Aug. 29, 1945, in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9,
1986. Dorothy was a member of
Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood. She enjoyed walking, and especially enjoyed
her grandchildren. Surviving are two sons,
Paul (Jeanette), Waunakee, Wis., and Peter (Peggy), Iron Mountain; six
grandchildren, Jill (Paul) Miller, Middleton, Wis., Sarah Heczko, England,
Nicole (Jon) Rawling, Verona, Wis., Suzann Creech, North Olmsted, Ohio, and
Christopher and Rebecca Heczko, Waupaca, Wis.; eight great-grandchildren,
Suzannah, Gillian and Nicholas Rawling, Suzann and Benjamin Creech, and Maille,
Katarine and Max Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and
husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzann Heczko-Trethewey,
on March 4, 1998; grandson, Joshua Peter Heczko, in 1985; brothers, Joseph,
William and Jack Garland; and sisters, Fern Garland in infancy, Elizabeth
Delorme, Ruth Jarvi, and Marian Casari. Funeral services will be
held Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Salem
Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Peggy Rose,
pastor, officiating. Committal and interment
will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Luncheon will be served in
the church fellowship hall immediately upon return from the
cemetery. Pallbearers will be
Christopher Heczko, James Casari, Jon Rawling, and Scott Anderson. In lieu of flowers,
memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church. Condolences may be given
