Donna J. Hegbloom, 76, of E.
Michigan Ave., Ironwood, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in
Rochester, with her family by her side. The former Donna Bourdages was born Oct. 25,
1935, in Ashland, Wis., daughter of the late Raymond and Edna (Derosier)
Bourdages, attended grade school in Saxon, Wis., and graduated from Saxon High
School in 1953. She then attended St. Scholastica School of Nursing in Duluth,
graduating as a registered nurse in 1956. Donna worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth
for one year, and at Grand View Hospital and Josephson Nursing Home in Ironwood,
retiring from Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, Mich. in
1998. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood, where she sang in the Resurrection Choir, and the Auxiliary
to Mercier-Kero American Legion Post 371 of Saxon. Her interests included
cooking, baking, spending time with her grandchildren, visiting at area nursing
homes, playing cards with family and friends, traveling, going to the casino,
and watching Packer games. Donna was an energetic, caring and generous
person who always thought of others before herself. She will be deeply missed by
many. She was married to Gene "Red" Hegbloom on
Sept. 28, 1957, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Saxon, by the Rev. Walter
Torkildson. Gene preceded her in death on March 3, 2011. Surviving are two sons, John (Diane),
Ishpeming, Mich., and David (Lisa), Ramsay, Mich.; two daughters, Wendy (Kirt)
Grasso, Montreal, Wis., and Kathy (Paul) Follett, Sun Prairie, Wis; nine
grandchildren, Maria and Melissa Grasso, Cassie (Steven) Bluhm, Hannah Hegbloom,
Matthew, Jennifer and Brett Follett, and Joshua and Jessica Hegbloom; a brother,
James (Donna) Bourdages, Arbor Vitae, Wis.; a sister, Sharon (Jack) Massoglia,
Kenosha, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Jim Hegbloom (Elaine Jack), Saxon, and Vanner
(Melva) Hegbloom, Globe, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Jean Hegbloom, in 1958; brother, Terry
Bourdages; and sister, Pat Lennox. Out of respect for Donna's wishes, cremation
has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in
Ironwood, preceded by visitation in the St. Joseph Family Room at 10 a.m., with
the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring inurnment will be in Lakeview Cemetery,
