Donald P. Flint, 68, of Sunset Road, Ironwood Township, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, in Ironwood, following a brief illness.      He was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., son of the late Floyd and Lillian (Rundberg) Flint, and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1961. He then joined the U.S. Navy, serving on nuclear submarines USS Triton and USS Skate for seven years.      Following his honorable discharge, Don returned to Bloomer, Wis., where he constructed homes and barns and worked in metal fabrication and maintenance. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1984 and served in the 397th Engineer Battalion in Eau Claire, Wis., retiring as motor pool sergeant in 1997. During this time, he  was also employed in metal fabrication at PDM, retiring in 1998 and moving to Ironwood in 2001.      Don was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, where he sang in the choir and was a certified lay minister. He was also a member of Mercier-Kero American Legion Post 371 in Saxon, Wis., and served in the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard, a member and past president of the Ironwood Area Chamber of Commerce in 2005, member and past president of the local Gideons Chapter, and was an active member and served on the board of directors of Copper Peak. He loved hunting at his deer camp, fishing on his boat, the "Sea U Later", out of Saxon Harbor on Lake Superior, and playing golf.      On July 17, 1965, Don was married to the former Betty J. Baldwin in Norfolk, Va. She survives.      Also surviving are three sons, Edward (Cynthia), Menomonie, Wis., Donald II (Kristine), Burke, Va., and Erick (Michelle) Chippewa Falls.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Candis), Barron, Wis., and Jerome (Corky), Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Sharilyn Seitz, Bricelyn, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law.      Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Jr. and Dennis; and a sister, Joyce Flint.      Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 11 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Peggy Rose officiating.      Committal will take place at the church, where full military honors will be accorded by the Mercier-Kero American Legion Post 371 Honor Guard.      Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.      Inurnment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, Wis.       Members of  the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.      Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Salem Lutheran Church.      To view Don's obituary online, sign his guestbook or express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
