Obituary

Dominic M. Ciatti, 72, of Hurley, Wisconsin, passed away Dec. 17, 2008, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Dominic Ciatti, known as "Poncho," was born June 3, 1936, in Pence, son of the late Attilio and Clara (Gillbertson) Ciatti, attended grade school there, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1956. He worked for the Patrick Cudahy Meat Packing Co. in Milwaukee for several years, was employed by the Oglebay-Norton Mining Co. in the Montreal Mine for a short time, then was employed as a driller/blaster and foreman at White Pine Copper Co. for 19 years. He retired after 20 years of service as water treatment operator for the City of Montreal in 1998. Poncho Ciatti was a current member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal, a 30-year member of the Montreal Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the Gile Flowage Association. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman enjoying spending time at his hunting camp "Poncho's Palace" with his family and friends. Poncho was a serious Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed watching the Milwaukee Brewers. For the past 26 years he kept a journal of the weather and memorable activities of he and his family. He followed his grandkids throughout all their sporting activities and enjoyed taking his chihuahua "Blizzard" for long walks as his pet rarely left his side. He was a wonderful husband, dad, father-in-law, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and gramps to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and to his daughter-in-law's nieces and nephews. A man with a unique sense of humor, he will be dearly missed by all. On Nov. 17, 1962, Poncho was married to Judy Trombi at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal. She survived him. Also surviving were a son, Dominic Ciatti Jr. (Helena), Wausau; four grandchildren, Nichole (Dan) Nordhaugen, Ironwood, Joseph and Joshua Ciatti, Wausau, and Erica Ciatti, Kalamazoo, Mich.; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Ciatti and Amelia Nordhaugen, both of Ironwood; a brother, Fred (Anita), Nevarre, Fla.; two sisters, Lorraine (Bob) Kehlenbeck, Hurley, and Mary (Jerry) Hamm, Wisconsin Dells; sisters-and -brothers-in-law, Carole Semenak and Diane "Bunny" Maffesanti, both of Ironwood, Janice Berglund and Robert and Helen Trombi, all of Montreal, Donna and John Lipski, Franklin, Richard and Mary Trombi, Bloomington, Calif., and John Popovich and Debbie and Jim Zakovec, all of Mellen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
