Obituary

Dolores Ann (Bulinski) Stevens, age 94, passed from our earthly life and into the kingdom of heaven in the early morning hours of September 5th, surrounded by her family. She was a current resident of Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Dolores was born on December 17th, 1930, in Ironwood, MI, to Peter and Regena (Dudra) Bulinski and was a graduate of AD Johnston High School. In Bessemer, MI.

On October 27th,1956, she was married to Eugene (Hunz) Stevens at Christ the King Catholic Church in Ramsay by Reverend Louis Cappo. They were happily married for 53 years when Hunz passed in March of 2010. Dolores was a former member of Holy Trinity Church and a current member of Our Lady of Peace in Ironwood.

Dolores was employed by the Michigan Bell Telephone Company and the Ironwood Area Schools' food service department from 1971 until her retirement in 1992. She loved cooking for her family, with pasty being everyone's favorite!

Dolores enjoyed many activities and hobbies. Her favorite place to spend "off time" was the family's cottage or "lake haus" as her grandsons called it. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, and was a very accomplished crocheter. Her family continues to be kept warm by the beautiful blankets and sweaters she made for them. Dolores loved her home and all that it entailed. Guests were always greeted with her seasonal decorations, a cup of coffee, and a sweet treat. She was a fan of the Packers, but her absolute favorite team was the Detroit Red Wings. She loved watching games and having hockey talks with her grandson, Cole. For her 85th birthday, her family gifted her with a trip to a Minnesota Wild vs Detroit Red Wings game, a cherished memory!! She and Hunz enjoyed their many trips to Albuquerque, NM, to visit her son Dan and her grandchildren there. Seeing the sights, playing golf, and enjoying family time. She adored her grandchildren and loved watching them grow up. She followed them around to all their activities, attending their games, concerts, and school functions. She was a fixture in the stands at hockey games, football games, track meets, soccer games, and motocross races. She was a constant in their lives and a built-in cheerleader!

Dolores is survived by her sons, Dan (fiancée Cheryl Lemley) Stevens, Albuquerque, NM, and Ted (Karen) Stevens, Ironwood, MI. Her 4 grandchildren, Dr. Tyler Stevens, Ph. D., and Danielle Stevens (Sinjin Leva) all of Albuquerque. Matthew (Alexandria) Stevens, Davenport, IA, and Cole Stevens, Grand Forks, ND. She is further survived by a sister, Marlene Kerkes, Woodruff, WI, and brothers Dennis (Carole) Bulinski, Chandler, AZ, and David (Kathy) Bulinski of Ironwood. Her sister-in-law, Carolyn Stevens, Zion, IL. Dolores had one local niece, Bonnie, with whom she shared many wonderful visits, with other nieces and nephews across the country. Beyond immediate family, Dolores had many wonderful friends, including Edie, June, Margaret, and very special neighbors, Porky and Julie always looking out for her.

Those who passed before her include her parents, Peter and Regena Bulinski, her husband Eugene (Hunz) Stevens, a brother, Peter Bulinski II, and sister-in-law June, her brother-in-law William Kerkes, as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and JoAnn Stevens, and Betty and Gordon Thomas. Dolores was also preceded in death by 3 of her nephews/godsons – Michael Kerkes, Peter Bulinski III, and Tim Stevens.

As difficult as this time is for our family, we are comforted by the knowledge that she has now rejoined her husband and family in heaven.

A graveside service for Dolores will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Brian Gerber officiating committal rites at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.

We, as her family, would like to thank the caring staff at Villa Maria for their skill and the care they showed our mother and grandmother.
