Dennis Leigh Chartier Jr., 37, of Ashland, formerly of Bessemer, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Ashland. He was born January 3, 1980 in Hibbing, Minnesota, son of Dennis Sr. and Gina (Hart) Chartier. Dennis attended schools in Middletown, Rhode Island and Bessemer, Michigan. He received an Automotive Mechanic Certificate from Gogebic Community College in Ironwood. Dennis was employed locally at Big Powderhorn Lodging Association as a reservationist. He was a cook at various restaurants in the area and an auto mechanic at the Spur Gas Station in Ironwood. He enjoyed working on cars, his truck was his biggest passion along with snow-boarding. He is survived by his mother, Gina Hart of Bessemer, a sister, Christy (Jason) Olberding, a niece and god-daughter, Avery Olberding, a nephew, Isaac Olberding, all of Marion, Iowa; his uncles, Hunter (Bonnie) Chartier, and Gordon (Dawn) Hart; and his aunts, Nancy (Wayne) Gross, Carrie Hall, Jane Hart and Cindy Chartier. Also surviving is Dennis's best friend and buddy, Fred (Sara) Catalan of Ironwood. Numerous uncles, aunts and cousins survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis L. Chartier Sr. on April 7, 2003, maternal grandparents, Sherman and Gerry Hart; and paternal grandparents, Bill and Maureen Chartier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer at 10 am. Rev. Dominic Agyapong will be the celebrant. Dennis's family will receive relatives and friends from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Frick Zielinski Funeral Home, 304 S. Sophie Street, Bessemer on Friday, November 17. Cremation will take place. Spring Inurnment will take place in the Hillcrest Cemetery.
