Obituary

David R. Jacquart, 83, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, in Wakefield.      He was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Ironwood, son of the late Louis and Florence (Bartlett) Jacquart, and graduated from St. Ambrose High School in 1944. He then entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class  in 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Ironwood to attend Gogebic Community College.       Because of his love of flying, David joined the U.S. Air Force and then the U.S. Army, working in aircraft maintenance and flying helicopters in Viet Nam. He retired in 1966 as a Chief Warrant Officer and was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters and the Bronze Star for service in Viet Nam. Prior to returning to Ironwood, David resided in Greybull, Wyoming where he maintained aircraft that were used to fight forest fires. He was the chief of fixed wing maintenance for Hawkins and Powers Aviation. In Ironwood, he was the manager of the Gogebic Co. Airport.      David was a 4th Degree member and past Grand Knight of the Greybull Knights of Columbus Council, a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and a member of the Ironwood American Legion Post 5. His hobbies included tinkering with anything mechanical and working on computers.      Surviving are his step-children, Dr. and Mrs Victor Dee and Marjorie Lofgreen of Nacogdoches, Texas, Ms. Deborah M. Lofgreen and Mr. Carl Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz., Christopher G. and Patricia Lofgreen of Lincoln, Neb., Mr. Mark M. Lofgreen and Mr. Kaj B. Lofgreen of Columbia, Mo., and Mr. and Mrs. Cassin and Paula Lofgreen of Steilacoom, Wash.; his brother, Robert (Kay), of Ironwood, and many nieces and nephews.      Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann; sisters, Florence Ruth Jacquart in infancy, Evonne Jagla and Mary Louise Geach; and brothers, Lionel and Eugene.          The family would like to thank the staff at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility (especially Denny) for the respectful and dignified care David received.      In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept.18, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, where full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard.      A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.      Private interment will be in the Jacquart family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.      Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, where members of Pere Menard Assembly 471, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, will serve as honor guard       In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Peace Adopt-A-Student Program.      To view David's obituary online, sign the guestbook or express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
