Daniel Virgil "Danny" Baross, 31, of Erwin Township, Ironwood, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Feb. 10, 2009, in Ironwood. He was born April 14, 1977, in Ironwood, son of Delores (Puranen) and the late Virgil Baross. He attended the A.L. Norrie Grade School and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1995. He then received an associate degree in criminal justice from Gogebic Community College in 1997. Danny worked as a bus boy at Connie's Supper Club in Hurley for a short time and at Bessemer Plywood until Dec. of 2006. From Jan. 2007 to the present he was employed as a corrections officer for the State of Michigan at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood and the Michigan Corrections Organization. He enjoyed hockey and was a former referee and coach of Polar Bear Hockey, and was an avid Green Bay Packers, Detroit Red Wings and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing softball, and especially enjoyed spending time with family. On Nov. 9, 2001, he was married to the former Carla Jean Bonack at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the Rev. Todd Frusti. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Robert, Zachary and Tyler, all at home; his mother, Delores Baross, Ironwood; three brothers, Randy, Manitowish Waters, Wis., James (Angela Diehl), Tecumseh, and Virgil (Kristy), Superior, Wis.; six sisters, Teresa (Keith) Rock, Ironwood, Debra J. Gianunzio, Hurley, Debra I. "Haikki" Benjamin (Frank Lahti), Montreal, Wis., Patti (James) Milnar, Oakdale, Minn., Tina Carlson, Ironwood, and Lori Ann (John) Grasso, Bessemer; his father-in-law, Dewey Bonack, Mayville. Wis.; brother-in-law, Todd Bonack, Mayville, Wis.; sister-in-law, Lisa (Bryant) Halverson, Brownsville, Wis.; an uncle and aunt; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends. Besides his father, Danny was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky, on Oct. 3, 2007; a nephew, Timothy Lee Rock, in 1973; and his mother-in-law, Janet Bonack, on June 2, 2000. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5104 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Wesley Baumeister officiating. Committal will take place at the church, with a luncheon reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and again from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday.
