Obituary

Curtis L. "Curt" Levra, 50, of Pence, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2009, in his home in Pence. He was born June 25, 1958, in Wakefield, Mich., son of Lawrence and Geraldine (O'Leary) Levra, attended Montreal and Hurley schools, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1976. While in high school, he excelled in tennis, baseball and football, receiving numerous accolades and awards. Curt was employed as a carpenter with Tri-State Homes of Mercer for several years, and worked locally as a carpenter and mason for George Nasi Construction, Ero Nasi Construction and Wayne Nasi Construction. At the time of his death, he was employed with Ross Peterson Construction of Hurley. He was very active in coaching his son in Little League baseball and his daughter in grade school basketball and girls softball, leading them to many tournament championships and a state runner-up trophy in girls softball two years in a row. His true passion for the outdoors, deer and bear hunting, stream trout fishing, trapping, etc., was a big part of his life, and he instilled that passion in his son, Dylan, his best friend and partner who was always at his side. Because of that passion, part of him will always live on in Dylan. Dylan will forever be profoundly thankful for his Dad's interest in the outdoors and the quality time he spent with him, as well as the quality time spent with both he and his sister in all of their sporting pursuits. Curt was a wonderful family man, and was a great father, grandfather, son and brother. No matter what was asked of him, he always came through. He will be deeply missed. He had been married to Paula Bertini. Surviving are a daughter, Carly, Ironwood, Mich., and son, Dylan, Montreal; a grandson, Brayden; his father and mother, Lawrence and Geraldine Levra of Hurley; two brothers, Duane, Gile, and Jerry, Kimball; a niece, Ashley Levra, Lansing, Mich.; three nephews, Casey Levra, Montreal, and Daulton and Mitchell Levra, both of Kimball; a great-nephew, Kodie Levra, Montreal; his special companion, Sarah Rhenlund, Pence; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends.
