Obituary

Bradley M. Newberry, 39, of Salmi Lane, Ironwood Township, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 12, 2009, in Ironwood, from injuries sustained in a wood chipper malfunction. .   Brad was born Feb. 14, 1970, in Racine, Wis., son of William and Faith (Szymarek) Newberry, attended A.L. Norrie and Ironwood Catholic Grade Schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School  in 1989.      His past employments included Long Haul Trucking for KLLM Trucking and Jeff Foster Trucking, and locally , Lakeshore Equipment in Ontonagon, McDonald's Restaurant in Ironwood, and at Niemi Trucking, Globe Industries, T-Bird ReadyMix  , and Delich Trucking. At the time of his death, he drove semi for Corullo Forest Products, owned and operated Newberry's Butcher Block out of his home shop, and was a sub-contractor for USDA Rural Development. He was formerly self-employed with B & K Limited and Freight Finder.      Brad was a member and current president of the Gogebic Range Trail Authority and a member of the Gogebic County Fair Board. He loved fishing and hunting, boating and canoeing, and camping at Langford Lake and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota. He also volunteered his services as heavy equipment operator for numerous organizations and projects.     On Oct. 2, 1993, he was married to the former Katina M. Bale at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the Rev. Norbert Landreville. She survives.     Also surviving are three sons, William, Adam and Michael, all at home; his father, William Newberry, Ironwood; his mother, Faith Newberry, Ironwood Township; a sister, Laura (Larry) Koivisto, Saxon, Wis.; his father-and-mother-in-law, Jim and Annette Bale, Ironwood Township; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Jason and Heather Bale, Bessemer, Melissa Bale, Ironwood, and Aaron and Christel Bale, Bessemer; uncles, Clint Newberry (Gloria Schmidt), Ironwood, and Chuck (Kathy) Newberry, Medford, Wis.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; step-aunts and uncles; and many, many special friends.      Out of respect for Brad's wishes, cremation has taken place.      Brad was a very loving and generous person who would have given the shirt off of his back for you, and will leave a large hole around all who knew and loved him.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will follow in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church.      Inurnment will be private.      Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday.      In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family for a trust fund to be established for the Newberry children.      To view Brad's obituary online, sign the guestbook and express condolences, visit mckevittpatrickfuneralhome.com.      Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood
