Beth Ann Forslund, 55, of E5071 Welch Creek Lane, Ironwood Township, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Ironwood. The former Beth Ann Korpela was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Wakefield, daughter of the late Richard and Ethel (Erickson) Korpela. She attended Bessemer schools and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School with the Class of 1970. She then attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette and graduated with a degree in Secondary Math and Elementary Education. Beth taught 4th grade in the Central Elementary School in Wakefield for 17 years, and then taught math and computers at the Wakefield High School for 10 years. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood through Sunday school, choir, bell choir, women's groups, and quilting guild. Beth co-founded and co-coordinated the Life Together Wednesday church school. She also held various committee/board positions for Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp, Synodical Women's Organization, and Alpha Delta Kappa teachers' sorority, as well as volunteered at the Grand View Hospital. Beth loved spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed. On July 6, 1974, she was married to Paul Forslund of Ironwood at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer, by Pastor Kenneth Farb. Paul survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Britt (Spencer) Slade, of Bark River, and a son, Gus Forslund, of Ironwood; a sister, Sue Korpela, of Woodbury, Minn.; her mother-in-law, Lillian Forslund, Ironwood; a sister-in-law, Linda (Roger) Stenroos, Ashland, Wis.; nieces, Sarah Stenroos, Burlington, Wis., and Kimberly Stenroos, Ashland; a nephew, Michael Stenroos, Superior, Wis.; and many, many other dear family members and friends. Beth was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel, in 1989; her father, Richard, in 2002; her father-in-law, Carl Forslund, in 2006; and a brother-in-law, Mark Forslund, at birth. Private family graveside services and committal will be Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 100 W. Midland Ave., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Francis Strong officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Relatives and friends may visit the immediate family from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. A memorial will be established to fund the continuation of Beth's favorite church activities: church school, Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp, and Zion choirs.
