Bertram "Bobby" Gerry, 87, of Gile, Wis., died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Keen Agers in Wakefield, under the compassionate care of the Keen Agers' staff and Regional Hospice Services.      He was born May 17, 1925, in Hurley, Wis., son of the late John and Freda (Kemp) Gerry, and attended Hurley schools. He worked at Johnson's Truck Farm in Ironwood and Corsi's Grocery Store in Cary Location for several years, prior to entering the U.S. Navy in 1943 and serving in amphibious forces in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.      Upon his honorable discharge as a seaman first class in 1945, Bobby returned to Hurley and worked as a skip tender in the Cary Mine for 20 years until the mine closed. He then was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Erie Mining Co. in Schroeder, Minn., retiring in 1975.      Bobby was a charter member of Iron County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580 and a former charter member of the Range Cloverland Barbershop Chorus.He bowled in Hurley leagues for many years, was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed beaver trapping, deer hunting and fishing in his younger years. His passion was scrap metaling.      The most important thing in Grandpa's life was the love of his family. We will miss your Sunday dinners.      He was united in marriage to the former Phyllis J. Durand on Nov. 22, 1947, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hurley, by the late Rev. C.L. Harries. Phyllis preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1997.      Surviving are two sons, Robert (Kathy), and Scott (Kerstin), both of Gile; five grandchildren, Trevor Gerry and Robin Gerry, both of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Jean Anne (Jason) Nousiainen, Stillwater, Minn., Justin Gerry, Bessemer, and Scott Gerry Jr., Gile; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Grace and Imaya; a brother, John (Peggy), South Carey, Hurley; two sisters, Beverly (Louis) Eppolite, Byron, Minn., and Joyce (Curt) Rice, La Crosse, Wis.; brother-in-law, William Heilig, Ironwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides his parents and wife, Bobby was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Gerry, in 1965; and two sisters, Dorothy Schimke and Doreen Heilig.      Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.      Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at 10:30 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9:30 a.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Todd Winkler officiating.      Committal and interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood, where full military honors will be accorded by the combined Hurley American Legion Post 58 and Iron Co. V.F.W. Post 1580 Honor Guard.      Luncheon will be served at Tacconelli's in downtown Ironwood immediately upon return from the cemetery.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice Services, Inc., 100 So.
