Bertha Lillian Saari, 96, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Bertha was born April 8, 1921, in Ironwood, to Erick and Fanny (Rajala) Haanpaa, the eldest of eleven children. She married William Saari in 1938, he preceded her in death in 1966. Bertha is survived by her two sons, William of San Francisco, and Robert (Fleurette) of Crystal Falls; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Dorothy) , Darin (Rebecca) and Erik (Miriam) Saari, Cynthia (Eugene) Reinke, Angela (the late Charles) Burd, Randolph (Cynthia) Penna and Kirsten (Christopher) Goodman; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; three brothers, Gerald (Marlene), James (Shirley) and Royce (Brenda) Haanpaa of California; and one sister, Marjorie Lozano, of Ironwood; and many nieces and nephews. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Wilbert (the late Julia), Arnold (the late Inga), Kenneth (Pauline), Ronald (the late Donna) and Donald (Mary) Haanpaa; and one sister, Edna Brown. There will be no memorial service in accordance with Bertha''s wishes.
