Obituary

Bertha L. Ravey, 90, of Burnsville, Minn., passed away Oct. 20, 2008, at Ebenezer Ridges Care Center in Burnsville, with her loving and caring family by her side. A longtime resident of Ironwood, Mich. and Mercer, Wis., Bertha was born in Bessemer Township, Mich. on June 9, 1918, daughter of the late Edward and Hilja (Sereni) Laine, graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1936, and business school in Muskegon, Mich. She was married to Wesley Y. Ravey on June 8, 1940, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, by the Rev. G.A. Kaltenbach. Wes preceded her in death on May 29, 1982. She is survived by her son, Charles (Carol), Burnsville; granddaughters, Stacy Rasmusson (Ron), Farmington, Minn.; Sandra Soelter (Tim), Fairmont, Minn.; and Shannon Jorgenson (Curtis), Farmington; eight very special great-grandchildren, Michael, Trevor and Adam Rasmusson, Andrew, Mikayla, Zachary and Nathaniel Soelter, and John Jorgenson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Besides her parents and husband, Bertha was preceded in death by brothers Reino and T. John Laine, and sister, Lillian Shouldice. Bertha was employed by Sear's and Cherne Carlson Co., and owned the Michigan Pack and Ravey's Market in Ironwood with her husband Wes. She was a longtime member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, the American Legion Auxiliary and choir. Bertha loved to downhill and cross-country ski, snowmobile, swim and water ski with her son and wife, grandchildren and husbands and great-grandchildren into her late seventies. A celebration of Bertha's life will be held on Nov. 1, 2008, at the Presbyterian Church of the Apostles, Burnsville, and at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood, with Dr. Jack Fashbaugh, commissioned lay pastor, officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Sat., Nov. 22.
