Benedict P. "Ben" Vronch, 90,
of Ironwood, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in Ironwood. He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Ironwood, son of
the late John and Mary (Sentko) Vronch, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High
School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Navy on June 24, 1944, serving in the
Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, and was honorably
discharged as a coxswain on May 23, 1946. Following his honorable discharge, Ben moved
to Rockford, Ill., where he was a self-employed building contractor for 47
years, retiring in 1983 and returning to Ironwood in 1984. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic
Church in Ironwood, Ironwood Knights of Columbus Council No. 1396, Pere Menard
Assembly No. 471, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and Ironwood American
Legion Post 5. Ben married Olga J. "Allie" Kolak in 1977 at
St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Ironwood. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Michael (Brenda),
Hurley, Wis., and James, Rockford, Ill.; a daughter, Judith Walsh, Roscoe, Ill.;
ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Celia DeMario,
Ironwood, Marie Erickson, Ironwood Township, and Veronica Skolasinski,
Wakefield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Ben was preceded in death
by a son, William, in 1993; three brothers, Andrew, John and Isadore; and a
sister, Agnes Heikkinen. Cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Wednesday, April 25, at noon, at Our Lady of Peace Church in Ironwood, with the
Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, where full military honors will be accorded by
the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard. Luncheon will follow in the parish
hall. Private interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church from 11 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, where
members of Pere Menard Assembly No. 471, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, will
