August P. "Gus"
Turzak, 76, of Ironwood, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at Aspirus Grand View
Hospital in Ironwood. He was born June 29, 1935, in
Ironwood, son of the late Alexander and Katherine (Strauch) Turzak, attended
Ironwood schools, and graduated from L.L. Wright High School in 1953. He then
worked as a seaman on Great Lakes ore carriers prior to entering the U.S. Army
in 1958. Following his honorable
discharge as a corporal in 1960, Gus resumed working on the Great Lakes,
retiring in 1985. He was a member of Trinity
Lutheran Church in Ironwood, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are a sister, Helen
(Eugene) Jorgens, San Jose, Calif; three nephews, Paul (Cheryl), Bruce (Lori),
and David (Tiffany) Jorgens; five great-nephews, Tyler, Matthew, Scott, Eric and
Joseph Jorgens; and one great-niece, Caitlin Jorgens, all
in California. Besides his parents, he was
preceded in death by a brother, Alex, on June 29, 2006; and sister, Mary Turzak,
Nov. 16, 1998. In accordance with Gus's wishes,
cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Interment will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Ironwood. Condolences may be given to
