Obituary

Antonette M. Borgaro, 91, a long-time Iron Belt resident, died Monday, May 7, 2007, in Ironwood. The former Antonette Oberto was born March 2, 1916, in Anvil Location, Bessemer Township, daughter of the late Clement and Mariana (Brumalle) Oberto, and attended the Anvil School and Iron Belt High School, where she was captain of the girl's basketball team. She was married to James "Jack" Borgaro on June 30, 1934, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Iron Belt, by the late Rev. Sikorsky. Jack preceded her in death on July 28, 2002. Antonette was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the Auxiliary to Hurley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1580. An excellent cook and seamstress, she created her own recipes and designed all of her daughter's baton twirling uniforms. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Surviving are a son, James (Jean), Menomonie, Wis., and a daughter, Janet Pozega, Ironwood; five grandchildren, Keith (Rose) Borgaro, San Francisco, Calif., Kim Borgaro, Los Angeles, Calif., Douglas (Heidi) Borgaro, Eau Claire, Wis., Robert (Deanna) Pozega Jr., Marquette, Mich., and James (Tammy) Pozega, Dothan, Ala.; five great-grandchildren, Michael Vittel, Kaisha and Maria Borgaro, and Steven and Cady Pozega; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Helen Oberto, Iron Belt. Besides her parents and husband, Antonette was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice and John Oberto, and her son-in-law, Robert "Doc" Pozega, April 27, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, presider. Rite of Committal and interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Iron Belt. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Joe Snarski, John Oberto, Larry Zanutto, Isadore Burzinski, Mike Erickson, and Douglas Borgaro.
