Anthony M. "Tony" Osterman, 91, of 504 Agate Rd., Ironwood, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Hurley. He was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Ironwood, son of the late Marko and Mary (Kure) Osterman, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1935. He worked in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Iron River, Mi. after graduation, then returned to the area. In 1942, he went to work for Joseph Kangery at the Twin City Fuel Co. in Ironwood, purchasing the business from Mrs. Kangery in 1968, and retiring in July 1978. Tony was an avid ski jumper and a charter member of the Gogebic Range Ski Club, and was one of the originators and former director of Copper Peak, Inc. He managed Range fast pitch and girls' slow pitch softball teams, and umpired for high school, inner city, and interstate leagues. He was a member and past president of the Range Horsehoe League and also the Ironwood Cribbage League, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a current member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. On Aug. 30, 1941, he was married to the former Marie Hill at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood, by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Judy (Jim) Huss, and Karen (Larry) Talkowski, both of Ironwood; eight grandchildren, Carl A. Huss, San Antonio, Tx., Michael (Ann) Skowronski, Shawano, Wis., Jeffrey and Becky Skowronski, Dan (Ellen) Talkowski, and Renee (Dave) Pertile, all of Ironwood; Jayne (Ed) Silveira, Yuba City, Calif., and Erica (Dan) Sholl, Grand Ledge, Mi.,; five great-grandchildren, Jaymes and Tesh-Ann Silveira, Samantha and Shawn Pertile, and Joey Sholl; a sister, Rose Bray, and a son-in-law, John Skowronski, both of Ironwood; sisters-in-law, Joanne and Lena Osterman, both of Ironwood, and Sigrid (Val) Bonetti, Bruce Crossing; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan J. Skowronski, Dec. 13, 1996; eight brothers, Peter, John, Martin, Frank, Matt, Joseph, Louis, and a brother at birth; and four sisters, Katherine Stefonek, Helen Clark, Mary Whitley, and Anne Osterman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 27, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, presider. Rite of Committal will be held in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Jim Huss, Larry and Dan Talkowski, Dave Pertile, and Michael and Jeffrey Skowronski.
