Annette G. Gulan, 89, of Montreal, Wis., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, in Hurley. The former Annette Zdrodowski was born June 23, 1919, in Ironwood, Mich., daughter of the late Casmer and Frances (Kasprzak) Zdrodowski, and attended Ironwood schools. She was married to Wallace "Wally" Gulan on July 19, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley by the late Rev. Peter Meyer. Wally preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1960. Annette was employed as a waitress at the St. James and Curry Hotels and Joe's Pasty Shop, and as a seamstress at the J.C. Penney Co., all in downtown Ironwood. She also worked at Simpson Electric in Mercer and at the Mellen Veneer Mill in Mellen, retiring from Ironwood Products Co. in 1984. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal and its choir and Altar Society. She loved the outdoors and picking mushrooms, apples and berries, and enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and knitting. Surviving are two daughters, Eileen (Jerome) Skrzypchak, Edgar, and Paulette (Alan) White, Superior; six grandchildren, Brenda (Thomas) Rachu, Jeffrey (Jody) Skrzypchak, and Russell Skrzypchak, all of Edgar, Jodene Ortner, Stratford, James (Regina) White, Newport, Tenn., and Jeanine (James) Peterson, South Range; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Casmer (Adele) Zdrowski, DuBois, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Florence Gulan, Hurley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Annette was preceded in death by a brother, John Zdrodowski; and sisters, Frances Postlethwaite, Anna Braspenninckx, Mary Marleau and Stella Maxinoski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 13, at noon, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Michael Hayden, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until Mass time on Friday. Pallbearers will be Russell and Jorie Skrzypchak, Tom and Josh Rachu, and Alan and Jim White.
