Obituary

Anneta J. Gunderson, 88, of Ironwood, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 21, 2016, after a lengthy battle with circulatory disease. Anneta wished to leave this earth in her home, and that is what happened with family members at her side.  Love of family, of her many friends, and of her church, where she worked hard to help keep it going, those were the things that kept her going, right to the end.      Anneta was born in Murphysboro, Ill., on Jan. 29, 1928, to Mary Elizabeth and Teddy Lipe. She lived there through her school years, where she met her one and only Charles R. Gunderson at Southern Illinois University, fell in love and married April 4, 1947. Four years later, daughter Candace was born. Moving around the country for Charles' work, retirement brought them to Ironwood in 1994.      Anneta loved to travel, and with Charles, snowmobiled all over upper Wisconsin, the U.P., and even out west in the Yellowstone area. They did this for many years until the bumps on the trails got too big.      Surviving are her husband, Charles; daughter, Candace (Paul) Forslund; granddaughter, Alison Snyder; grandson, Greg Snyder (Anne); great-granddaughter, Abby Dovin; brother, Byron E. Lipe; and many nieces and nephews.      In addition to her parents, Anneta was preceded in death by brothers, Ted E. Lipe and James Lipe; sister, Linda K. Ditzler; parents-in-law, Martha and Charles O. Gunderson; son-in-law, Ronald Snyder; brother-in-law, Vernon Gunderson; and many aunts and uncles.      Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with Dr. Jack Fashbaugh officiating.      Committal and interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.      Luncheon will be served at the Elk & Hound on Country Club Road in Ironwood upon return from the cemetery.      Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 662, Ironwood, MI 49938, or HOPE Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 261, Ironwood, MI 49938.      McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc., Ironwood, is assisting the family.
