Obituary

Anna Mae Sbraggia , 85, of Montreal, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, Dec. 12, 2017, at Villa Maria Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease.      The former Anna Mae Miller was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Pence, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Kaseno) Miller. She attended grade school in Pence and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley in 1952. She began working as a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ashland, then over the years worked  at Schomisch Drug Store in  Hurley, Munsingwear, Green Thumb Green House in Ironwood, Mich., and as head of food service at Whitecap Mountain until her retirement. Her interests included knitting, cooking, gardening and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, and was always very concerned and caring about the well-being of her family and loved them with all of her heart. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley.       On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gene "Geno" Sbraggia, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pence. He survives.       Also surviving are a son, Mark (Paula), and daugthter, Carol (James) Vokolek, both of Montreal; eight grandchildren, Sean (Kelly) Luoma, Rebecca (Brandon) Holm, Melissa (Jay) Oja, Jesse and Gene Vokolek, Nicole (Brandon) Pertile, and Cory (Heather) and Samantha Sbraggia; 13 great-grandchildren, Riley, Bennett, Gage, Sydney, October, Snow, Braxton, Addison, Brailey, Brianna, Payton, Maleya and Emerson; a brother, George Miller, Ashland; three sisters, Mary Catherine (Fred) Ebli, Milwaukee, and Patricia Klobucher and Charlene (Tom) Lajcak, both of Ashland; brother-in-law, Robert (Charlotte) Sbraggia, Mindoro, Wis.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, Anna Mae was predeceased by a brother, William Miller; sisters-in-law, Virginia Miller, Sylvia Miller and Sue Miller; and brother-in-law, Tom Klobucher.      Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.      Luncheon will follow in the parish hall.      Rite of Committal and inurnment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley, in the spring.      Arrangements have been entrusted to McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
