Obituary

Ann M. Hornick, 92, a longtime Montreal, Wis. resident, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, in Ironwood.      The former Ann Tomich was born July 7, 1917, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Steve and Louise (Ritmanich) Tomich, and attended Ironwood schools.      She worked for the WPA in the 1930's, at the Hansen Glove Factory in Ironwood for seven years, and was employed as a seamstress at Stern & Field in downtown Ironwood for ten years, retiring in 1984.      Ann was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley and the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montreal and its' Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and the outdoors.      On Oct. 25, 1941, she was married to Joe "Chuch" Hornick at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Carl Petranek. Joe preceded her in death on Feb. 13, 1993.      Surviving are two sons, Robert (Linda), Conroe, Texas, and Brian (fiancee Mary Hartkopf), Wausau, Wis.; two grandchildren, Michele (Noel) Pekel, The Woodlands, Tx., and Mark Hornick, Humble, Tx.; four great-grandchildren, Madison Hornick and Maegann Hornick, both of Humble, and Nicholas Pekel and Isabella Pekel, both of The Woodlands; a brother, Tony (Nel) Stimac, Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Mary Maki-Studden, Ironwood; and special friend and caregiver, her niece, Mary Strelcheck, of Bessemer.      Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Sopko, Veronica Eddy and Eva Tolvanen.      Out of respect for Ann's wishes, cremation has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev.
