Obituary

Amelia V. "Milly" Kniska, 88, of 304 W. Lime St., Ironwood, died Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2009, in Wakefield. The former Amelia Kubacki was born April 26, 1920, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Steve and Mary (Skowronski) Kubacki. She attended grade school in Saxon, Wis. and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1939. She was employed as a line worker at Simpson Electric Co. in Mercer for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Milly was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and the former St. Michael's Catholic Church and its' Altar Society. She was also a member of the Polish Festival Group, a former member of the Eagles Club, and was active in Girl Scouts and PTA in her earlier years. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with her sisters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She married John Magdziak in 1939 at St. Michael's Church in Ironwood. He preceded her in death on Oct. 9, 1947. She was then married to Joseph M. Kniska on Sept. 5, 1953 at St. Michael's Church by the late Rev. Frank Ronkowski. Joe preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Jackie Paulson, Beach Park, Ill., and Penny (Jack) Jacisin, Ironwood; six grandchildren, Jackie Dueno, Manitowoc, Wis., Stacy (Kelly) O'Neal, Kentwood, Kelly (Jack) Winston, Beach Park, Anita Jacisin, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., John (Cheryl) Jacisin, Ironwood, and Mike (Donna) Jacisin, Marquette; eleven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Leesa (Nick), Aaron, Mark, Ashley, Brandi, David, Amanda, John, Logan and Joe; two great-great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Brooke; a brother, Stanley (Elaine) Kubacki, Kimball, Wis.; two sisters, Dorothy Korpela, East Troy, Wis., and Kay Wudi, Milwaukee; sisters-in-law, Clara Zarziski, Ironwood, Arlove Kubacki, Nashotah, Wis., Marie Nelson, Sun City, Ariz., and Gail Kniska, Hurley, Wis.; a granddaughter-in-law, Angela Paulson, Menomonie, Wis.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands, Milly was preceded in death by a grandson, Marvin Paulson; brother, John Kubacki; and sister, Irene Andersen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl J. Pepin, celebrant. Rite of Committal will take place in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church, with luncheon to follow in the parish hall. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call in the St. Joseph Family Room at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
