Obituary

Alice K. Brottlund, 80, of E4569 Lake Rd., Ironwood Township, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Ironwood.         She was born April 10, 1929, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Frank and Nelma (Maki) Harvat, attended the A.L. Norrie Grade School, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1946.          On July 2, 1949, she was united in marriage to John A. Brottlund at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood by the late Rev. Jacob Hirvi.          Alice was employed at the S.S. Kresge Co. in downtown Ironwood for a short time, then worked as office girl at the Norrie School for one year and as office secretary at Luther L. Wright High School for one year. Together with her husband John, she operated Brottlund's Rock and Antique Shop at their home on Lake Road for 20 years from 1963 to 1983. Her greatest joy was raising and caring for her husband and five children. Alice also enjoyed coffee klatching with all of her "coffee friends".          Surviving are her husband, John, of 60 years; a son, John F., Tomahawk, Wis.; four daughters, Beth (Earl "Hap") Peterson, Bessemer Township, Billie (Leslie) Johnson, Forest Lake, Minn.; Peggy (David) Kalina, Browerville, Minn., and Carrie (Doug) Bull, Ironwood Township; seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Wade) Melquist, Sun Prairie, Wis., Travis Peterson, LaFayette, La., Adrianne Peterson (Zach Nagtzaam), Grand Rapids, Brittany and Lucas Kalina, Browerville, and Cory and Katie Bull, Ironwood Township; two sisters, Audrey (David) Lindquist, Ironwood Township, and Carol (Wilfred) West, Pinellas Park, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Marian Erickson, Ironwood, and Shirley Brottlund, San Jacinto, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Besides her parents, Alice was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Harvat; a sister, Shirley Leopard: and a brother-in-law, Willard Brottlund.          In accordance with Alice's wishes, cremation has taken place.        A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with the Rev.
