Obituary

A. Elaine Lindberg, 80, of 129 So. Mansfield St., Ironwood, died Friday, July 27, 2007, in Ironwood. The former Elaine Eliason was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Ramsay, daughter of the late Carl and Fannie Eliason, attended grade school there, and graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer in 1944. She then attended two years of business college in Milwaukee. Moving to Ironwood, Elaine was employed as a legal secretary at the William Cloon Law Office for many years, and as a secretary at the Lieberthal Insurance Agency and the J.W. Huss Insurance Agency for several years. She became a licensed insurance agent in 1979, and was employed at Twin City Insurance Agency in downtown Ironwood, retiring in 1988. Elaine was a faithful and active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, where she served as a Sunday School and Confirmation teacher, sang in the choir, was past president of the LCW, receiving Mother of the Year honors, a member of the Salem Altar Guild, the Eunice Guild, and Salem Quilters, and was a greeter, reader and usher. She was also a past member of the Ironwood Business and Professional Women's Club, and was formerly active in the Central School PTA. Elaine was an excellent seamstress, and also enjoyed knitting, cooking and baking, and traveling. She loved Lake Superior, lighthouses and sailboats, and enjoyed spending summers at Horsehead Lake in Presque Isle, Wis. Her family was her life. On Oct. 16, 1948, she was married to Jack D. Lindberg at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1993. Surviving are a son, John (Debbie Ballisteri), Milwaukee; four daughters, Kristine Ward and Greta Lindberg, both of Ironwood; Kathy (John) Jacobs, Petoskey; and Rebecca Lindberg, Duluth, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Ward, Ironwood, and Ethan Jacobs, Petoskey; a sister, Shirley (William) Neely, Dallas, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Gordon Lindberg and Sharon Usinger, and Bob and June Lindberg, all of Lake Gogebic; David and Jean Lindberg, Rhinelander, Wis.; Nancy Hendrickson, Ishpeming; and Bill and Nancy Lindberg, Wells, Nev.; and special friends, Tootsie Hartman, Winneconne, Wis., and Elaine Peterson, Marilyn Paulsen, Polly Anderson, and Jean Roberts, all of Ironwood. Besides her parents and husband, Elaine was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert "Butch" Ward; sister, June Webber; a brother in infancy; nephew, Timothy Webber, and two brothers-in-law, David Webber and Arnold Hendrickson. In accordance with Elaine's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, at 11:30 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with the Rev. Christian Muellerleile, officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Private committal and inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood. Relatives and friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
