Obituary for William John Hautanen

William John Hautanen, 83, of
N11381 Pump Station Rd., Ironwood Township, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in
Hurley.      He was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Ironwood
Township, son of the late John and Tyyne (Tikkanen) Hautanen, attended Roosevelt
School, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1945. He then served
in the U.S. Army Air Corps for two years in Occupation Forces in Korea and
Japan.      Following his honorable discharge, Bill
returned to Ironwood and was employed by his father as a mechanic at Hautanen
Implement Co. in Ironwood for 20 years. He also worked as a mechanic for various
Redi-Mix companies in the area and was self-employed in the repair
business.      Bill enjoyed his camp on Black River Road and
camping, downhill skiing and attending the Minnesota State Fair with his family.
He loved collecting anything related to  John Deere.       On Sept. 8,
1951, he was married to the former Elaine M. "Sally" Suliin in Ironwood. They
would have been married for 59 years on Sept. 8. Sally survives.      Also surviving are two daughters, Barbara
Hautanen (Michael Paulson), Fargo, N.D., and Joellyn (John) Douglass, Palmer,
Alaska; three grandchildren, Alicia Joy McDonald, Alaska, and Ryan and Jessica
Paulson, Ohio; four sisters, Ruth (Harold) Butterfield and Betty Grigg, both of
Milwaukee, Sharon (Joe) Pegoraro, Sarasota, Fla., and Lynn (Steve) Cull, St.
Louis, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and extended family, Robert,
Danielle and Michael Johanson, Ironwood; Tom and Pat Niksich and Katie, Maggie,
T.J. and Christopher, Ironwood Township; and Tammy Shenk, Marshfield,
Wis.      Beside his parents, he was preceded in death
by a brother, Donald, and sister, Jean Lund.      In accordance with Bill's wishes, cremation
has taken place.      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in
Ironwood, with the Rev. Darryl Pepin, celebrant.      Rite of Committal will take place in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church, where a flag presentation ceremony will be
accorded by representatives of Ironwood American Legion Post 5.      Luncheon will follow in the parish
hall.      Private inurnment will be in Sunset Acres
Cemetery, Ironwood Township.      Relatives and friends may call in the St.
Joseph Family Room at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday.      Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Vitton,
John Neuman, Tom and Christopher Niksich, Clarence Fredrickson Jr. and Robert
Fredrickson.      Arrangements are with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral
Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
