Obituary for Verona P. Swetkovich
Verona Pauline Swetkovich, 95, of Pence, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital.
Verona was born on March 8, 1928, to George and Anna (Turney) Kaseno in Mellen, Wisconsin. She attended Mellen Schools. She was a cheerleader, prom queen and graduated with the class of 1946. She was united in marriage to Earl Swetkovich on September 10, 1949, at St. Anthony’s in Pence. She was on the St. Anthony’s Guild, and is now a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley. Verona loved gardening, cooking, canning, crocheting, knitting, playing cribbage and enjoyed playing board games. She also loved to dance with Earl in their younger years.
She is survived by her children; Daniel (Jan) Swetkovich of Pence, Kenneth (Karla) of Washburn, Cheryl Herrala and Carol Mattson both of Iron Belt, 12 grandchildren; Peter, Tracy, Stacey, Emily, Jeffery, Mischa, Sasha, Carrie, Ryan, Michael, Melissa, and Steve and 18 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Lillian Perich, and Joan Swetkovich who was very dear to her. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
Verona was preceded in death by her husband Earl, son Michael (Mickey), her parents, her brothers;John Kaseno, Michael Kaseno, and her sisters, Mary Kaseno, Ann Miller, Pauline (Dominic) Reineiro, Helen (Carl) Miller, Marie (Bill) Calligaro, Rose (John) Neibauer, and Alice (Lawrence) Tafelski, sons-in-law; John Herrala and Donald Mattson.
Visitation for Verona will be held on Wednesday June 21st from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Hrudaya Raju Sunkara officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
