Obituary for Thomas L. Monroe

Thomas L. Monroe, 57, of Ironwood, Mich., died Tuesday evening, April 25, 2017, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, with his loving family by his side.      He was born Aug. 6, 1959, in Watertown, Wash., son of Ruth Anderson and the late Charles Monroe. He came to Ironwood from Florida where he was employed as a mechanic at Sass Goodyear Tire and Auto for several years. He then moved to Minot N.D. in 2010 and worked as a cook there for four years, returning to Ironwood in 2014 and retiring due to a disability.      Tom was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved mini golfing. He could fix anything and enjoyed helping people work on their cars. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.      He was married to Laurie Grunert. They later divorced but remained good friends.      Surviving are three sons, Jacob (Hailee Jacobs), Minot, Benny, Ironwood, and Dante, Sandusky, Mich.; a daughter, Amanda Monroe (Kevin Sporleder), Ironwood; four grandchildren, Orion Schenk, Payton Sporleder, Hayden Monroe and Paige Sporleder; his mother, Ruth Anderson, Wausau; two brothers, Jay (Peggy), Florida, and Galen (Pam), Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Margaret Wohlgemuth and Beth Zindrick, both of Wausau; and his longtime girlfriend and mother of his son, Dante, Terri Daghuer, of Sandusky.      Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.      A celebration of Tom’s life will be held Sunday, April 30, from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Aurora Athletic Club in Ironwood.      Arrangements were with McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ironwood.
