Obituary for Sherman W. Hart
Sherman W. Hart, 86, of
Mercer, Wis., passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA
Medical Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Sherm was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Homer, Neb.,
son of the late Richard and Kathleen (Winch) Hart, and graduated from high
school there in 1943. During this time, he was also employed at Swift Packing
Co. in Sioux City, Iowa. He left this job the same year to work at Eriksen
Trucking for a better salary. Sherm joined the Army the same year. He was a
PFC in the 690th field artillery battalion, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.,
before being stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1945,
Sherm went to Chicago to live with his grandmother, Teresa Capone, where he
worked odd jobs. After a short time he was offered a job in Mercer for his
uncle, Ralph Capone, where he was manager of Billy's Bar. He met and married the former Isla Davis in
Feb. 1947. After Uncle Ralph sold the bar, Sherm and Isla moved to Milwaukee,
where he managed the Black Steer and El Dorado supper clubs. He wanted a
business of his own, so he moved back up north to buy Scotties Supper Club.
Sherm named it the Sky Lawn. A short time after this, he and Isla parted ways.
In 1965 he married the former Geraldine Marconeri. Sherm and Gerry ran the Sky
Lawn until their retirement in 1997 to be in Florida. Sherm is survived by his children, Terry,
Ralph and Jennifer (Rick); stepchildren, Gina and Gordon (Dawn); grandchildren,
Candice (Tommy), Bridgette (Eric), Christy (Jason), Amanda, and Dennis Jr.;
great-grandchildren, Jaden, Avery and Isaak; a brother, Harry Hart; numerous
nieces and nephews; very best friend, Paul Toneys, who he thought the world of;
and last, but not least, his beloved pets, Lexi, Mia, Pumba and
Pounce. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wives, Isla and Gerry; and brothers, Richard Jr. and Bill. Out of respect for Sherm's wishes, cremation
has taken place and no formal services will be held. A private gathering will take
