Obituary for Russell J. Lundgren

Russell J. Lundgren, 71, of  511
Division St., Hurley, died Friday, March 4, 2011, at home, surrounded by his
loving family, following a lengthy illness.      He was born April 21, 1939, in White Bear
Lake, Minn., son of the late Henry and Margaret (Thomas) Lundgren, attended
Hurley schools, and graduated from J.E. Murphy High School in 1958. He then
served three years in the U.S. Navy.      Following his discharge, Russ worked in
Milwaukee for Allis-Chalmers, returning to Hurley in 1968. He worked for Corky
Olkonen at Superior Bottle Gas in Ironwood and at Cleary's Dairy in Hurley, and
was employed at the Lake Superior District Power Co., retiring as a lineman due
to an injury in 1982.      Russ was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Hurley and was ordained a Deacon on Sept. 11, 1992, serving St. Mary's
parish until 2006. He was active in Hurley Little League in his younger years,
and enjoyed following his grandchildren in their sports and music pursuits. He
also enjoyed golf and fishing, and was a member of Eagle Bluff Golf Club in
Hurley.      On June 15, 1963, he was married to Faye C.
Bruneau at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She
survives.      Also surviving are two sons, Ronald
(Elizabeth), Lisbon, and David, Hurley; three daughters, Laurie (Mike) DeRoehn,
New Holstein, Michele (Dennis) Soderman, Montreal, and Kristin (Chris)
Colassaco, Hurley;   seven grandchildren, Amanda
Soltis, Nicole, Jaime and David Galarno, Abbi Lundgren, and Tyler and Zane
Colassaco; a great-grandson, Devin Soltis; three brothers, Raymond (Shirley),
St. Paul, Minn., William (Janice), Carpentersville, Ill., and Thomas, Milwaukee;
seven sisters, Kathryn Mieloszyk, Hurley, Marilyn Gribble, Bend, Ore., Karen
(William) Sargent, Siren, Judith (Luther) Davis, Athens, Ga., Janice (Sylvester)
Florian, Hartford, Joanne (Bob) Bruneau, Hurley, and Peggy (Joe) Innis, Sturgeon
Bay; an aunt, Margaret Lundgren, Hugo, Minn.; a sister-and-brother-in-law,
Shirley and Francis Bianchi, Ironwood; and numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins.        Besides his
parents, Russ was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Colassaco, in 2004; and
two brothers, Ronald and Richard.       Private family services were
