Obituary for Robert Harland Olkonen
Gile, Wisc. – Robert “Bob” Harland Olkonen, 70, of Gile passed away on January 31, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on October 10, 1951, in Kimball, Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Corrine (Saari) Olkonen.
He married June Wiikus on June 30, 1977.
Bob worked at White Pine Copper Company for 5 years, and then he went to be a long-haul trucker for 23 years. He also owned and operated Olkie’s Bar in Ironwood for 20 years.
He enjoyed fishing; and in his retirement, he loved his side-by-side wheeler.
Bob is survived by his wife, June; children, William (Ronda) of Oma, Wisconsin, Melissa of Gile and Leevi of Superior, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Logan, (Samantha) Olkonen, Mattea Olkonen, Elaina Maki and Hunter Gerbig; and great-grandchildren, Jayden and Skylar Olkonen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Corrine Olkonen and in-laws, Levi and Ethyl Wiikus
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township at 11 am with Pastor Steve Hyvonen officiating, preceded by a visitation at 10 am until the time of the service.
Interment will be at Hurley Cemetery in Hurley, Wisconsin.
